Tom Cruise Confirmed to Play Jack Reacher in Film Adaptation of One Shot by Lee Child

One Shot by Lee Child

Last month we learned that Tom Cruise was being considered for the role of Jack Reacher in a film adaptation of One Shot, the 9th book in a series of crime novels by Lee Child. There was a considerable amount of discussion — debate — online as to whether he was right for the part, what with Reacher being (according to his own biography on the author's website) 6'5", 220-250 lbs. with 50" chest ... and Tom Cruise being, well, not.

Still, the author supported the choice, saying in part that, "Reacher's size in the books is a metaphor for an unstoppable force, which Cruise portrays in his own way." And now we're learning tonight that the studio producing the film adaptation and the actor have closed a deal. Production is expected to begin early this fall.

About One Shot: Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: You got the wrong guy. Then he says: Get Reacher for me.

And sure enough, Jack Reacher is coming. He knows this shooter — a trained military sniper who never should have missed a shot. Reacher is certain something is not right — and soon the slam-dunk case explodes.

Now Reacher is teamed with a beautiful young defense lawyer, moving closer to the unseen enemy who is pulling the strings. Reacher knows that no two opponents are created equal. This one has come to the heartland from his own kind of hell. And Reacher knows that the only way to take him down is to match his ruthlessness and cunning — and then beat him shot for shot.
