Several elements that have made this series so compelling to date are present here as well, but newly married and newly pregnant Faye Longchamp seems to have lost some of her vulnerability and ambition, a slightly disappointing development in an otherwise intricately crafted, historically and richly detailed -- and in the end, quite enjoyable -- mystery.
