While I'm no expert on the character of Sherlock Holmes, like many mystery fans I'm one of those who have read each of the novels and short stories in which he has appeared at least twice and was looking forward to, albeit with some trepidation, this reimagining of one of the most iconic characters from literature.
I'm pleased to say, upfront, that I was thrilled with the characters and setting and overall production and direction of the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes; only the weakly developed plot disappointed me.
