Mystery Bestsellers for September 18, 2009

Mystery Bestsellers

A list of the top 15 for the week ending September 18, 2009 has been posted on the Hidden Staircase Mystery Books website.

No change in the top 4 bestselling titles this week, but to no one's surprise, the third Robert Langdon thriller by Dan Brown, The Lost Symbol, enters the list this week. To those who might wonder why it isn't debuting in the top spot: we use a weighted calendar average of bestsellers on a Friday to Thursday schedule; The Lost Symbol wasn't available for purchase until Tuesday meaning that its sales for only 3 days count towards our ranking.

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown does come in at number 7, about as high as any title debuts on our list. Until this past Tuesday, there hasn't been much known about the book but an official synopsis has been released.

As the story opens, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned unexpectedly to deliver an evening lecture in the U.S. Capitol Building. Within minutes of his arrival, however, the night takes a bizarre turn. A disturbing object--artfully encoded with five symbols--is discovered in the Capitol Building. Langdon recognizes the object as an ancient invitation ... one meant to usher its recipient into a long-lost world of esoteric wisdom.

When Langdon’s beloved mentor, Peter Solomon--a prominent Mason and philanthropist--is brutally kidnapped, Langdon realizes his only hope of saving Peter is to accept this mystical invitation and follow wherever it leads him. Langdon is instantly plunged into a clandestine world of Masonic secrets, hidden history, and never-before-seen locations--all of which seem to be dragging him toward a single, inconceivable truth.
