Variety is reporting that Fox 2000 is acquiring the rights to Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta mysteries to develop as a vehicle for Angelina Jolie. Fox hopes to develop a film franchise for the series in a manner similar to that of the Jason Bourne thrillers by Robert Ludlum.
As we mentioned yesterday, Cornwell also has a development deal with Lifetime Networks to adapt her mystery series featuring Boston district attorney Monique Lamont.

Angelina Jolie as Kay Scarpetta??? I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteOh My God!! Please NO. Her toxic, loathsome presence will assure that I never watch this.
ReplyDeleteI liked Angelina in the movie "Taking Lives" with Ethan Hawke, where she played a Forensic Specialist but I believe she is simply too pretty to be believeable as Dr. Kay Scarpetta. Scarpetta should be an attractive brunette with a coincidental and unassuming type of sexiness about her. I didn't see Jodi Foster in the role either (although I love her work...she just doesn't have the stature to carry it off). This is a magnificient role that already has a fan base of millions and any deviation from the characters or the book will cause a major cry of FOUL-Play on an international level.
ReplyDeleteI believe Lena Olin (most recently seen in "the Reader") would be an excellent choice. She is the right age, has the look, the presence and the precise amount of sexiness to pull it off! Equally important will be the roles of Lucy and Marino in the first 4 or 5 books developed! ...And God help them if they don't have the good sense to begin where it all began... with "Post Mortem" !
