Review: Rest for the Wicked by Ellen Hart

Mysterious Reviews: Reviews of New Mysteries, Novels of Suspense, and Thrillers

A Mysterious Review of …

Rest for the Wicked by Ellen Hart. A Jane Lawless Mystery.

Review summary: This is a solidly plotted, multi-faceted mystery with several intersecting storylines. With this entry, the series takes Jane in a new direction: she is now a licensed private investigator, who gets her first experience in being rebuffed by the police, who invariably do not like PIs getting involved in criminal matters. Cinemystery: Production Update on Film Adaptation of William Goldman's Heat

Cinemystery: Crime Novels Adapted for Film

Back in February we reported that William Goldman would adapt his 1985 crime thriller Heat, with Jason Statham starring. At the time Brian De Palma was attached to direct, but today we're learning that Simon West (Con Air, The General's Daughter) will helm the remake. West also directed Jason Statham in The Mechanic.

Goldman, who has won two Oscars for adapted screenplays (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, 1969; and All the President's Men, 1976), first adapted his book for the 1986 film Heat starring Burt Reynolds.

Heat is expected to begin production in February 2013.

Telemystery: Promotional Trailer for Luther Season 3

Telemystery Prime Time Crime: Mystery and Suspense on Television

BBC One has released a promotional trailer for the third season of Luther (embedded below).

Idris Elba stars as Detective Chief Inspector John Luther, a self-destructive near-genius, who might just be as dangerous as the depraved criminals he hunts.

The first two seasons — which originally aired, rspectively, during 2010 and 2011 — are available on DVD or to download. In addition, the series' creator, Neil Cross, recently published the first tie-in novel to Luther, titled The Calling.

Cinemystery: Millennium Films Acquires Eliza Graves, based on an Edgar Allan Poe Short Story

Cinemystery: Crime Novels Adapted for Film

An old project is getting an update with Brad Anderson set to direct Eliza Graves, an adaptation of the short story "The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether" by Edgar Allan Poe, which was first published in 1845.

Joseph Gangemi wrote the screenplay, which is said to involve "a new physician, who arrives to apprentice at a mental institution where he falls in love with a patient under circumstances that are more complicated than they seem." This description is rather different from that proposed a couple of years ago, when the project was first announced.

Millennium Films, which acquired the rights during this week's AFM Convention, expects to begin production in Spring 2013.

Promotional Image for The Woman in Black: Angel of Death

The Woman In Black: Angel of Death (2013)

Promotional material for the sequel to The Woman in Black was distributed at AFM this week (right; click for larger image). Titled Angel of Death, the screenplay was written by Jon Croker and based on an original story idea by Susan Hill, the author of the novel The Woman in Black.

The storyline of Angel of Death will pick up forty years after the events in the original. Seized by the government during World War II, the sudden arrival of a group of evacuated children at Eel Marsh House awakens its darkest inhabitant.

Tom Harper will direct. "I am thrilled to be a part of The Woman in Black: Angel of Death," he said. "This will be a great opportunity for me to collaborate with a brilliantly talented team on the next installment in this exciting series."
