Timestep to Murder by Norma Lehr
Publisher: Camel Press
About Timestep to Murder (from the publisher): Reunions can be deadly. How deadly? Abby Rollins, a Manhattan Toppette in the 70s and 80s, is about to find out. She joins five other former Toppettes, once a wildly popular group of chorus line dancers, on the Celebrity Showroom stage for one weekend at the Cal Neva Resort Hotel at Lake Tahoe. Although twenty-five years have passed since their last gig, their professional and romantic rivalries are not forgotten. With so much bad blood between them, no wonder two of the dancers end up dead. No matter what the cost, Abby is determined to absolve her best friend Renee from all suspicion.
Meanwhile, who is that mysterious figure lurking backstage? Who's leaving the anonymous notes? What about the sleazy comic who's emceeing the event? The group's solid fan base and the sensational nature of the murder investigation guarantees a sold-out house. Abby's new friend Blade, a former cop turned P.I. whose interest in Abby is more than professional, has his hands full keeping her out of danger. But is he really who he claims to be? Is anyone?

Murdock Cracks Ice by Robert J. Ray
A Matt Murdock Mystery
Publisher: Camel Press
About Murdock Cracks Ice (from the publisher): A deadly killer has iced Rollie Nielsen, a smart college kid with a brain for chemistry, and his dad wants to know why. Enter Matt Murdock, a tough-and-tender PI who is willing to get his hands dirty in search of the truth. Rollie had a weakness for classy women and easy money, a combination that led him to found a drug lab. No one knows exactly where he was working and what he was cooking—presumably “ice,” the street name for methamphetamine hydrochloride. Rollie pissed off a lot of bad guys on both sides of the law, who are busy messing up Murdock’s already messy life. Leaving behind a few bodies—some of them friends—Murdock departs smoggy Newport Beach, California, for cloudy Seattle, Washington, where he hopes to unearth Rollie’s lab.
With the help of wannabe detective Louie Chen and a sexy female acquaintance of Rollie’s, he just might succeed—and find a little romance along the way. That is, if he can keep his hide in one piece. Not easy, when you’ve got the biggest drug kingpin in Seattle on your tail.

Julie Kagawa's New Blood of Eden Series Optioned for Film
Blood of Eden: A Legend Begins.
This week, the first novel in a new young adult fantasy series, The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa, was published … and we're hearing that it has already been optioned for film; Palomar Pictures has acquired the screen rights to the series.
The storyline is set in a future world, where vampires reign.
Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.
Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked — and given the ultimate choice. Die … or become one of the monsters.
Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.
Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend — a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.
But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what — and who — is worth dying for.

Three Crime Thrillers Open in Theaters This Friday, April 27th
It's going to be a busy weekend at the theaters, with two crime thrillers opening wide across the US and a third in a limited release.
The Raven. Opens in theaters April 27, 2012.
When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper — part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack). But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story. Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe’s writings as the backdrop for his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author’s help in stopping the attacks. But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer’s next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it’s too late.
Directed by James McTeigue from a screenplay by Ben Livingston and Hannah Shakespeare.
Running time: 111 minutes. Rated R for bloody violence and grisly images.

Safe. Opens in theaters April 27, 2012.
A second-rate cage fighter on the mixed martial arts circuit, Luke Wright lives a numbing life of routine beatings and chump change … until the day he blows a rigged fight. Wanting to make an example of him, the Russian Mafia murders his family and banishes him from his life forever, leaving Luke to wander the streets of New York destitute, haunted by guilt, and tormented by the knowledge that he will always be watched, and anyone he develops a relationship with will also be killed. But when he witnesses a frightened twelve-year-old Chinese girl, Mei, being pursued by the same gangsters who killed his wife, Luke impulsively jumps to action … and straight into the heart of a deadly high-stakes war.
Written and directed by Boaz Yakin.
Running time: 94 minutes. Rated R for strong violence throughout, and for language.

Headhunters. Limited opening in theaters April 27, 2012.
Roger Brown (Aksel Hennie) is a successful, high-powered headhunter living way beyond his means, lavishing gifts on his stunning blonde trophy wife. He supplements his income by stealing rare artworks from his clients. Handsome Clas Greve (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and his original Rubens seem like an irresistible target but Clas lives the life of a Bond villain and the two men are soon embroiled in a deadly feud.
Directed by Morten Tyldum from a screenplay by Lars Gudmestad, Ulf Ryberg, and Jo Nesbø, the author of the crime thriller from which this film was adapted.
Running time: 98 minutes. Rated R for bloody violence including some grisly images, strong sexual content and nudity.
