The Cape: The Complete Series, a Mystery TV Series

He’s righteous. He’s heroic. He’s The Cape.

Vince Faraday (played by David Lyons) is an honest cop on a corrupt police force. But when he’s framed for murder and presumed dead he finds that he must go into hiding leaving behind his wife Dana (Jennifer Ferrin) and son Trip (Ryan Wynott). Determined to battle the criminals who now control his hometown Vince takes the law into his own hands and becomes The Cape — his son’s favorite comic book superhero.

The Cape: The Complete Series is available on DVD and iTunes (click on the icons above for more details), and consists of 10 episodes that originally aired as a mid-season replacement series on NBC during the Spring of 2011; it was not renewed for a second season.

Mannix: Season Five, a Mystery TV Series

Mike Connors stars as a tough and cynical private investigator in Mannix, a popular crime drama from the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Joe Mannix is a hard-boiled and gritty Los Angeles PI who constantly defies rules and regulations and is able to take all the fist fights, high-speed car chases and bullet wounds that come his way in stride.

The series was created by Richard Levinson and William Link, the creative force behind Columbo and Murder, She Wrote and others.

Mannix: Season Five is available on DVD (click on the icon above for more details), and consists of 24 episodes that originally aired on CBS during the 1971/1971 television season.

McMillan and Wife: Season Four, a Mystery TV Series

Rock Hudson and Susan St. James star as McMillan and Wife, one of the original rotating series that was included in NBC's weekly Mystery Movie; the others included Columbo and McCloud. (Later in its run, a fourth series was added, which changed every year.)

Stuart McMillan is the Police Commissioner of San Francisco and no desk jockey, spending far more time out in the field catching crooks than he does in his office pushing paperwork. He's assisted by the able Sgt. Charles Enright (John Schuck).

Meanwhile, on the home front, Sally has a knack for getting into trouble herself, often with the help of the McMillan's housekeeper Mildred (Nancy Walker).

McMillan and Wife: Season Five, a Mystery TV Series

Two seasons of the series are being released this week on DVD: McMillan and Wife: Season Four, which consists of 6 episodes that originally from September 1974 through February 1975, and McMillan and Wife: Season Five, which consists of 7 episodes that originally aired from September 1975 through March 1976. (Click on the DVD icons for more information.)

Susan St. James and Nancy Walker left the series at the end of the fifth season, which continued under the name McMillan for its sixth and final season.

Peter Falk and Columbo to be Honored at 2012 International Mystery Writers' Festival

International Mystery Writers Festival

The International Mystery Writers' Festival will honor Peter Falk and the character of Columbo at its 2012 event.

William Link, co-creator of Columbo, the television series that starred Falk, last year published a book of short stories featuring the character, titled The Columbo Collection; four of these stories will be selected and presented as Live Broadcast Theatre productions, presented in the style of old-fashioned radio shows.

The character was featured at the inaugural mystery festival in 2007 in Link's play "Columbo Takes the Rap", about a rapper who is murdered. Norm Boucher, who played the character then, will reprise his role in the new productions.

"When someone of the level of achievement of a Peter Falk leaves us, and we have new plays by the original author that are given to us to premiere, we need to do it," said Zev Buffman, president and CEO of the RiverPark Center, where the festival is held. "Peter Falk is worth celebrating whether we had new plays or not. Given new plays about the character, it's an opportunity to celebrate someone with both the old and the new — sort of like Columbo lives on."

The 2012 festival is scheduled to take place from June 11th through the 17th in Owensboro, Kentucky.
