Interactive Crime Drama L.A. Noire to be Released for Windows PCs

L.A. Noire (PC DVD)

Rockstar Games announced today that it is extending support for its popular interactive crime drama L.A. Noire to the Windows PC platform.

Released just last month for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, L.A. Noire is a crime thriller set in post World War II Los Angeles. As Detective Cole Phelps, players must search for clues, interrogate suspects and chase down criminals to solve a series of cases based on real world incidents. As he rises through the ranks of the LAPD, Phelps comes face-to-face with the corrupt heart of Los Angeles: from fallen starlets to double-dealing police officers and the vast reaches of the criminal underworld and finally, the darkness of his own personal demons.

Additional features are expected to include keyboard remapping and gamepad functionality to both optimize and customize performance and user experience. Along with increased fidelity and improved graphical enhancements, the PC version will also feature 3D support for an even greater sense of interaction and immersion within a painstakingly detailed 1940s Los Angeles.

No specific date was given for the release of the game for Windows PCs.

David Rosenfelt's Thriller On Borrowed Time Optioned for Film

On Borrowed Time by David Rosenfelt

Crime novelist David Rosenfelt's latest stand-alone thriller, On Borrowed Time, has been optioned by Gold Circle Films.

Published this past February, the storyline poses the question, What if it were possible that your most cherished memories were lies … and that finding out the truth could cost you your life?

Richard Kilmer is head over heels in love with Jennifer Ryan, who takes him home to meet her parents, where she accepts his marriage proposal. While visiting, they set out on a nostalgic drive up to Kendrick Falls. On their way there, a freak storm rolls in, Richard loses control of his car, and it rolls. When the storm clears in a matter of seconds, Jen is gone. Richard can’t find her, and neither can the police who respond to the scene. More horrifying is that no one in Richard's life will even confirm Jen’s existence, and all traces of her have disappeared.

Where could she be? Has Richard lost his mind, or has something far worse happened?

Rosenfelt is also the author of a series of mysteries featuring attorney Andy Carpenter.

In an episode titled "Company Man", Michael (Jeffrey Donovan) -- although still burned -- is now working alongside his old agency to bring down the people who burned him, following a trail that leads them to the heart of Venezuela.

The series also stars Gabrielle Anwar as Fiona, a beautiful ex-IRA operative who happens to be Westen's ex-girlfriend; and Bruce Campbell as Sam, Michael's closest buddy in town, a washed up military intelligence contact who is an expert in tactical analysis, cutting through red tape, and finding the quickest route to a cold Mojito.

Also, for those who are reading long with the series, the fifth tie-in novel by Tod Goldberg, The Bad Beat, will be published early next month.

Thomas & Mercer to Publish 87th Precinct Novels by Ed McBain

Cop Hater by Ed McBain

Amazon.com announced today that its publishing division, more specifically its mystery and suspense imprint Thomas & Mercer, has aquired the publication rights to the 35 titles in the 87 Precinct series by Ed McBain, a pen name used by Evan Hunter. (The first title in the series, Cop Hater, shown right, was published in 1956.) The first books will be published this fall in print, digital and audio formats. In addition, 12 titles from the author's Matthew Hope series will also be published, starting next year.

"McBain is a master of the mystery genre and we are thrilled to be able to repackage, publish and promote his unrivalled body of work," said Philip Patrick, Head of Rights & Licensing, Amazon Publishing. "One of the things we think Amazon Publishing can do is offer signature authors a new life for great backlist titles. Our agreement with the McBain estate is a perfect example of this approach."

McBain won the Grand Master Award for lifetime achievement from the Mystery Writers of America in 1986, and he was, in 1998, the first American to receive the Crime Writers Association Cartier Diamond Dagger award, also for lifetime achievement.
