It's "all early days" as Deadline puts it, but Universal Pictures is already thinking about a second "Aaron Cross" thriller, which would become the fifth film in the "Jason Bourne" universe. Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes) will write the (presumably original) screenplay.
Jeremy Renner starred as undercover operative Aaron Cross in 2012's The Bourne Legacy, a somewhat unfortunate title since (a) Bourne did not make a physical appearance, though his character was referenced and brief images appeared within the film; and (b) it was an original screenplay not based on any of the Robert Ludlum or Eric Van Lustbader books, even though there is one with that title.
No word on what direction the film might take, though as we noted in our review of The Bourne Legacy, "[t]he ending keeps the door open for a sequel …"
