MystereBooks: Mystery, Suspense and Thriller eBooks

Poisoned Pen Press has lowered the price on (at least) four more of its mystery ebook titles to 99 cents today. (Four is all we found that were new today, though to be fair, we think two have been at this price point at some point in the past; here is a link to all of the publisher's ebooks priced 99 cents on Amazon, which includes many that we've previously featured.)

We're providing book summaries below as well as links to purchase on Amazon and iTunes; Kobo is either not participating or they haven't yet updated their website.

Siblings Wendy and Jason Wyatt-Yarmouth and their friends are in the peaceful mountain town of Trafalgar, B.C. enjoying a two-week vacation of skiing, drinking, drugs, and sex. But tragedy strikes when two of the group crash through the ice into the frozen river.

It's Christmas Eve and the snow-storm of the decade has settled over the town. But when the autopsy reveals a shocking secret, Molly and Sergeant John Winters are plunged into a world of sexual predators, recreational drugs, privilege, and high-living.

Meanwhile, stalker Charlie Bassing is out of jail and looking for revenge, a handsome Mountie is giving Molly the eye, and her mother, Lucky, is cheerfully interfering in the investigation.

A Mad Dog and Englishman Mystery (6th in series)

On a bleak Christmas morning, Sewa Tribal Police Officer Heather English patrols a desolate canyon on the Arizona reservation. Her father, the Benteen County, Kansas Sheriff, is lonely enough with no family around to go work at his office. On the way, Sheriff English calms a wild incident in a church parking lot. Then receives a death threat. The crèche, at the center of the town's largest holiday yard display, has been desecrated. Its owner plans to kill the neighbors he suspects are responsible.

To keep their husband and father home, his family gives the sheriff the man's guns and promises not to let him make trouble. Soon the county fills with rumors that the sheriff is systematically violating Second Amendment rights and seizing every weapon. A local militia turns out, locked and loaded, and ready to do what it takes to stop him.

Meanwhile, in Arizona, Heather stumbles on the newly elected governor, newly murdered. A note explains his death is part of a drug war. His killer promises Heather she'll be among the victims. Her Uncle Mad Dog, a Cheyenne wanna be shaman, is involved. Someone thinks Mad Dog is a drug lord and sends him a last minute gift — a severed human hand. Careful police work, a little Cheyenne magic, and maybe a Christmas miracle are needed to restore peace on earth. One slip, however, and Mad Dog, Sheriff English, and Heather will rest in peace — eternally!

Priscilla Royal
A Prioress Eleanor Mystery (1st in series)

It is late summer in the year 1270 and England is as weary as its aging king, Henry III. Although the Simon de Montfort rebellion is over, the smell of death still hangs like smoke over the land. Even in the small priory of Tyndal on the remote East Anglian coast, the monks and nuns of the Order of Fontevraud long for a return to tranquil routine.

Their hopes are dashed, however, when the young and inexperienced Eleanor of Wynethorpe is appointed their new prioress over someone of their own choosing. Nor are Eleanor's own prayers for a peaceful transition answered. Only a day after her arrival, a brutally murdered monk is found in the cloister gardens, and Brother Thomas, a young priest with a troubled past, arrives to bring her a more personal grief. Now she must not only struggle to gain the respect of her terrified and resentful flock but also cope with violence, lust and greed in a place dedicated to love and peace.

A David Mapstone Mystery (5th in series)

It's the sweet season in Phoenix, 1999. Christmas and the new millennium are only weeks away. But history professor David Mapstone, just hired by the Sheriff's Office, still finds trouble, chasing a robber into an abandoned warehouse and discovering a gruesome crime that is six decades old.

Mapstone begins an investigation into a Depression-era kidnapping that transfixed Arizona and the nation: the disappearance of a cattle baron's grandsons, their bodies never found. And although the kidnapper was caught and executed, Mapstone uncovers evidence that justice was far from done.

But this is no history lesson. The cattle baron's heirs now run a Fortune 500 company and wield far more clout than a former-professor-turned-deputy. Then one of the heirs turns up dead …
