National Book Festival

Later this month, on Saturday, September 25th, the 2010 National Book Festival, organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress, begins on the National Mall in Washington DC.

A few days prior, on Monday, September 20th, Investigation Discovery will hold Hardcover Mysteries, a live webcast from the Library of Congress. Mystery writers, including David Baldacci, Sandra Brown and Kathy Reichs, will discuss what inspires them to write crime novels, and the true stories that have influenced the crossover of fact and fiction. (We think the website address for the live webcast will be InvestigationDiscovery.com/event. The event will also be tweeted live at @DiscoveryID.)

For those who want to attend in person, the event will be held in the Coolidge Auditorium of the Library's Thomas Jefferson Building at 10 First St. SE, Washington, DC. Doors will open at 6 PM and the event will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for a small fee through Ticketmaster at (202) 397-7328 or (703) 573-7328.

Next month, Investigation Discovery launches its new television series, also titled Hardcover Mysteries, in which eight bestselling mystery authors discuss the real-life cases that compelled their fascination and inspired their page-turners. Authors featured in the show are: David Baldacci, Sandra Brown, Harlan Coben, Linda Fairstein, Sara Paretsky, Kathy Reichs, Lisa Scottoline, and Joseph Wambaugh. The first episode airs Monday, October 11th, at 9 PM (ET/PT). Watch a 30-second commercial for the series below:

For those who'd like to know more about Dovey Johnson Roundtree, the "other woman" to whom David Baldacci referred in his narration of the Mary Pinchot Meyer murder on "Hardcover Mysteries: Read her new memoir, "Justice Older than the Law," which she and I co-authored. Baldacci said of Roundtree, the legendary African American woman attorney who won acquittal for the black man accused of Meyer's murder, SHE'S the character he'd have been proud to have invented!
