The California Chronicle is reporting that David Beckman, who writes, directs, and produces the television series Monk, will create a short film during the International Mystery Writers Festival, scheduled for August 12th through 16th in Owensboro, Kentucky. The movie will be written, cast, recorded and edited during three days of the mystery festival and premiere during the third annual Angie Award Ceremony at the RiverPark Center.
Breckman got involved with the mystery festival after his friend, Lee Goldberg, told him about the event. Goldberg, who has also worked on Monk and writes a series tie-in, participated in last year's mystery festival, where the American premiere of his film, Fast Track: No Limits, was held.
This year's mystery festival also features the U.S. premieres of four Agatha Christie plays: Three Blind Mice, Yellow Iris, Butter in a Lordly Dish, and Personal Call. They will be performed in the style of old-fashioned radio shows and will be broadcast live on WNIN-FM 88.3 on August 15th.
